Welcome to Sweet Tea and Sunshine! As you can see, this little blog has gone through a number of changes recently, the name being the first of many. I’m playing around with the look of the site, teaching myself all about CSS and Custom Fonts and hosting and fun bloggy stuff like that. Within the next month or so – or as soon as this semester is over – I expect that I’ll be able to finish all my planned changes. I’m also patiently waiting for my designer to finish his semester so that he can help me finish the rebranding, new logo, header, etc., and then the real fun will start.
For now, I plan to start posting regularly again – after all, what’s a food blog without recipes? And I can’t think of a better recipe for curing the blog hangover than a good old Bloody Mary. I’ve always preferred making my own mix, as store-bought brands tend to be pretty bland, and it only takes a few minutes to whip up! Continue reading
I know, I’ve been gone a LONG time. Forgive me.
To be honest, I don’t really have a good reason, other than the fact that a lot of changes are going on in my life right now. But they’re good changes!
The short version is that I have found the legal industry quite unfulfilling, for some time now. Part of it is that while I was in law school, the industry changed. Perhaps a bigger part of it is that over the past few years, I’ve changed.
Finally, in March, right around the time of my last post on here, I decided that the only thing left to do was pray. So I did. I prayed for a little direction, I prayed to be given the strength to figure out what is going to make me happy, not just today, or tomorrow, but for the rest of my life.
And it worked. Pretty quickly, actually.
Bon Appetit, I love you, I really do. And I love love LOVE that you dedicated this month’s issue to my favorite cuisine, Southern food. The crisp white cover highlighting what you claim to be the “BEST Fried Chicken Ever!” moved me so much that I almost spent the five dollars to take it home right-that-second, even though I’m a faithful subscriber.
I’ve been hooked on your down-to-earth writing style and your elegant, yet simple and approachable recipes ever since Gourmet sent me that fateful letter sadly stating that they were ceasing publication, but that Condé Nast was fulfilling the remainder of my paid subscription with your glossy pages.
I even subscribe to your website through my RSS Feeder, although half the time I end up rereading the same stuff that’s in the hard copy anyway. Because I’m LOYAL. It’s the Italian in my blood, I can’t help it.
But now you’ve gone and hurt my little Italian heart with this post. And I don’t know if we can be friends anymore. At least until next month’s issue. Continue reading
Chocolate chip cookies ordinarily need no introduction, but these are pretty special. Last night, Connor said he wanted cookies, and I remembered I had a bag of Ghirardelli chocolate chips in the pantry, so I figured I’d throw together a quick batch. I then remembered I was running low on all-purpose flour, so I decided to use only whole wheat flour and see what happened.
